Smoothie shock:
I’ve been playing around with home made smoothies and juices in effort to get more fruits and veggies in my diet. Green smoothies - all over it, and LOOK, I’m eating spinach for breakfast! My typical smoothie is one peeled banana, half cup frozen fruit, whole cup fresh fruit, whole cup soy/hemp/almond milk, handful of spinach, and a serving of TJ’s Hemp Protein Powder. This makes roughly a 16oz cup at somewhere between 300-400 calories, and about 15g protein which isn’t bad for breakfast, especially when I’m running.
After feeling a little too sleepy around lunch, with a few too many rogue headaches for my liking, I investigated and discovered that my home made smoothie packed full of nutrients and vitamins is also packed with 50ish grams of sugar. Whaddup bloodsugar spikes?! Yes, these are fruit sugars, no I’m not using sweetener or sweetened mixers, but wow.
