Laughing to keep from crying here folks… I found out today that my alma mater has accepted a request from Rick Santorum to speak on campus tomorrow.  The school is a small, private liberal arts university, with a diverse student population.  I’m all for schools providing exposure to new ideas for their students, but this…seems like something different.  It’s not just that he and I don’t share basic political views.  It’s the fact that he has either naively or purposefully (I’m not entirely sure) spread hateful and bigoted ideas throughout his campaign.  We’re not talking parsed soundbites here, we’re talking speech after speech spouting hatred while trying to back it with faith.   School is home when you’re in college, and I would like to think that the school has decency to respect and protect the home of it’s LGBT students enough to prohibit hatred of that kind on campus in any form.   Also his little rant about women working outside the home being radical feminists responsible in part for the downfall of society?  Probably isn’t going to be taken too  lightly by the over 60% female student body working their butts off to earn their education. Anyway, there’s a heated debate going on among alumni over on the FB, so I’ve come to you Tumblr.  Will you pat me on the back, tell me everything is going to be ok, and feed me spoonfuls of Nutella so I don’t have a rage stroke?
